We were very excited to visit the Amsterdam flower market, having read about how it is the only floating flower market in the world – and with the Dutch tradition of tulips I was sure that there would be some interesting things to see. It is located on the Singel canal between the Koningsplein and the Muntplein and is fairly easy to find.
There is a huge selection of seeds and bulbs at the market, and it is a nice place for a wander. However, the floating aspect isn’t too apparent, and the amount of souvenirs on sale (small clogs, large clogs, clog slippers etc…) does take away from the feeling of being in a market and more of a tourist attraction.
Despite the amount of cheesy souvenirs on display the markets are a lovely place to spend a little time if you are over on this side of town, and for more of a market fix the Amsterdam flea market is only a short walk away.
